The Sino-Japan Youth Conference 2010 is the continuation of a non-partisan conference organized by students and graduates from United World Colleges around the world that will provide an unprecedented opportunity for Chinese and Japanese students to come together as Youth Ambassadors, to develop mutual respect, discuss issues on the Sino-Japanese relationships and be empowered to put forward new initiatives as young leaders of today’s world. This will be an unprecedented opportunity for youths to actively engage in cultural understanding, historical interpretation, problem-solving and community service within the framework of the Sino-Japanese relationship. The conference will bring together 15 Chinese (Mainland China and Hong Kong) and 15 Japanese secondary school students, aided by 20 facilitators, to Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong, from August 3 to August 9, 2010.
Practicing our ideals
There are many perspectives on the Sino-Japanese relationship and many degrees of awareness of each others’ culture. We, the Sino-Japan Youth Conference Committee, are non-partisan and encourage flexible ways of thinking in young people. We strive to establish a constructive dialogue by exploring diverse points of view and by upholding the United World College’s ideal of international understanding. For the 2009 Conference, the first conference, “Dialogue for Young Neighbours” was our slogan. This year, for the 2010 Conference, our new slogan is “Future for Young Neighbors”. This represents our commitment to enacting practical and real change for the future.
Let’s talk about what we can do today!
The Beijing Olympics. The increasing economic interdependence of China and Japan. Their intertwined cultural background. What are your opinions on these issues in China and Japan? For 2010, we will accept 15 Chinese secondary school students (Mainland China and Hong Kong) and 15 Japanese secondary school students for the Conference.
