Sino-Japna Youth Conference 2012 Introduction
The Sino-Japan Youth Conference 2012 will be the continuation of a non-partisan conference organized by students and graduates from United World Colleges around the world that will provide an unprecedented opportunity for Chinese and Japanese students to come together as Youth Ambassadors, to develop mutual respect, discuss issues on the Sino-Japanese relationships and be empowered to put forward new initiatives as young leaders of today’s world. This will be a unique and unprecedented opportunity for youths to actively engage in cultural understanding, historical interpretation, problem-solving and community service within the framework of the Sino-Japanese relationship. It is also an excellent chance for participants to improve debating, leadership and conflict resolution skills, and for them to develop friendship across borders. The conference will bring together 20 Chinese (10 from Mainland China and 10 from Hong Kong) and 15 Japanese secondary school students, aided by 20 facilitators, to Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong, in early August 2012.
Practicing our ideals
The slogan of the Conference 2012 will be updated.
There are many perspectives on the Sino-Japanese relationship and many degrees of awareness of each others’ culture. We, the Sino-Japan Youth Conference Committee, are non-partisan and encourage flexible ways of thinking in young people by raising issues and conducting thought-provoking discussions and debates. We strive to establish a constructive dialogue by exploring diverse points of view and by upholding the United World College’s ideal of international understanding. For the 2009 Conference, the first conference, “Dialogue for Young Neighbours” was our slogan; for the 2010 Conference, our slogan was “Future for Young Neighbors”, which represents our commitment to enacting practical and real change for the future. Bearing the slogan “Knowledge is Power” and the theme “Active Learning”, the 2011 Conference focused on instigating productive discussions within participants from multi-faceted perspectives.
