This is a summary of the achievements of Conference 2009 which can be found in the Final Report.
The Sino-Japan Youth Conference 2009 was held successfully from the August 11th to the August 19th, 2009. It inspired 48 participants from China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan) and Japan, with the help of 27 organizers.
The Conference’s achievements include notable guests such as Professor Lawrence Lau, the President of Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr. Alex Yasumoto, the founder of Kamenori Foundation, and Ambassador Shigekazu Yasumoto from the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong. The Conference was also reported by one newspaper and five magazines. It was able to solicit funding from four foundations, two organizations, and five individuals. It was also officially endorsed by the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong.
During the 9 days, the Conference provided many opportunities: visit to a remote village in Guangdong Province that demonstrated discrimination and poverty; the professional knowledge and perspectives given by the wonderful guest-speakers; the sharing of grief at the peace commemoration; and the numbers of heated discussions on serious issues.
“After listening to personal experiences shared by the participants, I was really moved and nearly cried, that was when I finally realised the real cruelty of war. I realized that we all hate war and desire for peace,” a participant commented.
The Conference will be followed by the post-Conference commitment by participants, such as spreading the words through presentations and Ambassador Program where participants introduce the Conference to their community back home. Some participants may have the opportunity to come back to the Conference in 2010 as a helper if they display competence.
